Tracksters compete at Capitol City Relay

The Capital City Relay Track Meet held Jefferson City on April 16 is a track meet in preparation for the state meet on May 28. 28 schools attend this meet and there are 28 separate guys and girls teams. Rolla competes in this meet every year. Junior Kameron Jordan competed in three events at this specific meet. The 4×100 with Riley Maynard, Allie Harman and, Calista McCormack placing 16 out of 24 teams. 4×200 with Harman, Olivia Holmes and, Riley Maynard placing 14 out of 24 teams. Kameron also ran the 100 meter dash placing 22 out of 64 runners.
The meet is an all day meet and Rolla left the track at 7:00 Saturday morning and don’t return until around 9 at night.
“The hardest part about the day is being able to stay out of the sun to reserve your energy for all the races you have to run in. As soon as we get there we always have to lay underneath the bleachers or on the side of the building,” Jordan said.
Every athlete knowing that in order to be able to run to their full capacity they have to stay out of sun, drink as much water as possible, and eat but not too much or you’ll get sick from the heat and running.
“In order to be able to run and not feel like you are going to pass out you need to eat very light. Which could be like an apple or orange for breakfast, by the time lunch rolls around you get kinda dizzy and want to eat but once again light is the best or you can’t run as fast as you want to. Also, at meets I’m constantly keeping myself hydrated by drinking lots and lots of water,” Jordan said.
This meet is very stressful for a lot of runners because, with it being a meet in preparation for state you want to run to your best ability to show competitors you are a challenge and one to be looked at.
“The Capital City Relays are a very stressful meet because you can not have any coaches on the field with you as you are getting ready to compete. They have to stay outside of the track the entire time in what is called a coaches box.” Jordan said.
Jordan along with all the runners for Rolla work very in all they do and always put their best effort forward in all their events and, it did show in the Capital City Relay track meet.
