Everyone has a Story to Tell

Sophomore Faith Koenig gains experience by being the ‘new kid in school’ many times.

On April 4, 2000 sophomore Faith Koenig was born in Jefferson City Missouri. After staying in the vast city for about a year, she moved to Kankakee Illinois. She stayed in Kankakee, Illinois for one year and moved to Chebanse Illinois, and the list goes on.

“I’ve lived in Jefferson City Missouri, Kankakee Illinois, Chebanse Illinois, Omaha Nebraska, Hooper Nebraska, Hannibal Missouri, and Rolla Missouri. Seven in total,” Koenig said.

Faith’s parents are the main reason for the moving of the Koenig family.

“Both of my parents are Lutheran school teachers. My mom is a Lutheran school teacher while my dad is studying to be a pastor. We had to move here because my dad has to go to school. While we had to move for jobs. Its very hard to stay around in one place because of my religion,” Koenig said.

Moving around as many times as young Faith has, it can be hard on the family. Knowing that one family member doesn’t want to move can make moving a tad bit difficult.

“I think it brings us really close together because every time you move to a new town, you don’t really know anybody. You only know the people at the job, and normally nobody is our age [Faith and her sister] so it brings us closer as a family. We are the ones we trust the most and were the ones that can depend on anybody else. Everyone else has a best friend to know everything or a group of friends who that is all they talk to. Well since I have moved so many times I don’t have that group of friends to tell everything to, so that group of friends is my mom, dad, and sister,” Koenig said.

Whenever moving to another place people seem to become anxious and worrisome because of the new and foreign environment. Faith knows first hand how moving can be on one person.

“It’s very much hard on me, because I don’t like change. I have a very hard time with change, even considering all the times I have moved, every single time it gives me anxiety. I get so upset about it and it’s not really good on my family to pack up again. We will say ‘We’re going to do this again’ and everytime we say it’s the last time. No, it’s not the last time,” Koenig said.

Knowing that Faith might move again and knowing the struggle is going to be hard she still thinks back to the third or fourth time when she moved and has advice for herself.

“I give advice to myself, to be able to keep strong through everything. Eventually, throughout my life I struggled through a lot of things, anxiety, depression, and eating disorders because I felt like I wasn’t good enough for anywhere I went. I would tell myself to fight through everything that has happened because you are going to feel so good about yourself. Everything that happens, happens, so you can where you are today and one day you will be some place even better,” Koenig said.
