Sophomore golfer shares her passion for the sport

Sports provide many things like entertainment; a hobby, a challenge, school spirit, and much more. Sports such as soccer and football are the most well known in the U.S.A. and are the constant talk of many. But what about sports like tennis, or golf, or cheerleading? Why do these sports got very little attention in schools or in some cases not even be recognized as sports? Three athletes have been asked a couple questions on their respective sports and will give their opinion on the matter.
Sophomore Sophie Gesualdi plays on the varsity girl’s golf team.
“I think golf isn’t as popular sport as football or soccer, is because a lot of people don’t even see golf as a sport, but golf takes dedication and you have to be a dedicated person to golf just like any other sport,” Gesualdi said.
Golf is special, indivisualized, and a popular lifetime sport.
“Golf is always something I’ll play later on in life and I know I can use it later on whether I do it just for fun or for business purposes; it’s always a good skill to have. I think the fact that sometimes you have a love-hate relationship with golf makes it very special, because one day you can be playing great and the next day just goes bad-takes a turn for the worst,” Gesualdi said.
The complexity of golf provides athletic challenges that aren’t quite like other sports..
“I think you definitely have to know what you’re doing; how to hit the ball, where to aim, how far its gonna roll; but I mean when you have a 20 foot putt theres also a little bit of luck to it. I don’t think that(strenuous activity) has to be a requirement to sports, I mean yeah when you think of sports you think of: getting really into the game, running, physical contact. But i think golf is just a different version of competing for a team-being part of a team and setting a goal for yourself to reach,” Gesualdi said.
