New turf field to be used for more than just football

The new turf football field will be used for more than football. The field also has been painted with soccer lines, and will be used for gym classes, band, cheerleading, and color guard as well.

“It’s a great addition to our district,” Cathy Shoup, Athletic Director of Rolla Public Schools said. “It’s going to help not only football, but our marching band, our soccer program, and our physical education classes.”

The field will still be primarily for football, but will be used by the soccer team for their two tournaments and any games that would otherwise be rained out on grass, as long as the field is not being used by the football team.

“I think the new turf field is awesome,” Coach Willie Howard, Rolla High School’s head football coach said. “It gives us much more chance to practice and not have to worry about the weather. Other sports and sponsors get a chance to use the turf field all the time also.”
