Summer school offers benefits for variety of reasons

When there is a class that needs to be taken, retaken, or was just pushed aside during the regular school year, people go to Summer school. But sometimes questions arise about summer school, and some are just not sure what to do about it.
If a class is failed during first semester, the question of how to retake it make come up.
“ If you have failed a class in first semester you can take a first semester class over, same with second semester” Assistant principal Josh Smith said.
Some may need Credit Recovery, and they have that too
” There is some credit recovery that students work on some online stuff” Smith said.
Even for those who do not need Credit Recovery and have not failed a class, there are other courses available.
“We have government available, we have Elements of Drawing and Painting. We have Health, PE, Drivers Ed, Personal Finance, those are the main courses we’ll offer and ACT Prep class, that is pretty much it” Smith said.
Although many classes are available, there are some that are most commonly taken
”Probably the most popular would be Personal Finance, Driver’s ED. PE was pretty popular last summer” Smith said.
Sometimes there can be confusion as of where these classes will be available, but this is pretty clear.
”It will be here at the High School, down in the Math and Science wings” Mr. Smith said.
Obviously summer school is in summer, but the dates for it can sometimes be a little hard to remember since the dates change throughout the years,”Starts June second and runs through the twenty ninth” Smith said.
When in summer school, the schedule is very tight, and that is due to getting so much information in one month. So days missed are very limited.
”Students need to get sixty hours in the classroom to get credit, so we have twenty days of three hour class periods. That is sixty hours”Smith said.
Many classes such as band and choir can make some have one less hour for classes that are required, this is another good reason summer school is available
”There is attendance hours that students have to meet to get credit in class, and it is also available for kids that have a full schedule of band, or choir, or if they want to take a PE class in the summertime, or Personal Finance in the summertime, something we require for graduation that they might not have time for during their four year plan to get done”Smith said.
