Student handbook specifications clarify school policies for 2014-2015 school year

This year’s handbook includes two specifications: the sleeve regulation of shirts, blouses, etc. and the cafeteria rules.

“They are not really changes as much as word changes,”  principal Dr. Jim Pritchett said.

Although last year tops only had to cover the shoulder bone, this year sleeves are required.         “This year, we just added the word sleeves just to make it more clear… what is acceptable and what [isn’t]. We got into how much tank tops need to be and how much of the shoulder needs to be covered, so we went back to the same thing which is what it’s been for years,” Dr. Pritchett said.

The second specification restricts students from leaving the cafeteria during the lunch periods without approval.

“The sign-in and-out has always been that way, but it had gotten a little lax so we were just reminding students again that they have to sign-in and -out,” Dr. Pritchett said.

This reminder to the students is backed up because of two reasons.

“That goes with safety. If something happens, we know where to find them, where to locate them and really, it’s the same for staying in the cafeteria. They’ve got thirty-minutes to relax and everybody gets a little anxious and starts getting up and then there [are] big crowds of people. Someone is trying to go to the restroom and can’t go because there is a big crowd. It just makes it [easier] and also a better, safer environment for people to go in and out,” Dr. Pritchett said.
