Kansas City Convention inspires young journalists

Senior Nicolle Swiecicki shows off her Honorable Mention award that she won in the category of Editorial Writing at the National High School Journalism Convention this month.

RHS ECHO newspaper and Growler yearbook staffers spent some time in Kansas City this past week at the National High School Journalism Convention sponsored by the Journalism Education Association and National Scholastic Press Association.

Senior Nicolle Swiecicki returned to town with an Honorable Mention award in Editorial writing.

Seniors Sam Jokisch,Swiecicki, Chelsea Robbins, Stephanie Waldmann, Kim Wronkiewicz, Hannah Raper, and juniors Kaitlyn Hanlin, Sara Khan, Daniel Galarza, Sarah Rolufs, Connie Liou, and Rachel DeLashmit traveled from RHS to Kansas City with adviser Mary Gillis on Wednesday, Nov. 10 and returned Sunday, Nov. 14.  During the four day convention students attended workshops, convention break out sessions, a write-off competition, swap shops, and a break with a pro round table discussion.
