All-State Musicians Perform at MMEA

Five students from Rolla High School performed with the All-State ensembles at the annual Missouri Music Educators Conference and Clinics held at Tan-Tar-A, Lake of the Ozarks.  For the third year, the All-State participation fees for these students were paid with a generous donation from the Jackson Foundation for the Arts.

Senior Erica Westenberg was selected as third chair first violin in the All-State Orchestra.  Erica was also selected for the All-State Orchestra her sophomore year (she was unable to participate as a junior).  The All-State Orchestra performed under the direction of Steve Davies, Director of the University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory of Music Orchestra, and the Kansas City Youth Symphony.  Davies was a last minute substitution as conductor.  Orchestra students from across the state of Missouri auditioned for the ASO on Saturday, December 4, at Hickman High School.  Selected musicians then re-auditioned for chair placement when they arrived at Tan-Tar-A on Wednesday, January 26.   Erica is a member of the St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra, and frequently performs with the Rolla Choirs.

Four singers from the RHS Chamber Choir were among the 192 singers selected to perform with the All-State Choir.  Senior Lauren Schumacher (soprano) was also selected her junior year.   Seniors Alex Bay (bass), and Adam Davis (tenor) along with junior Amy Mazzeo (soprano) were also selected for the All-State Choir.  The All-State Choir auditions within their respective districts.  Juniors and Seniors who are selected for District Honor Choir are eligible to audition.  Only 16 singers (four per part) are selected to represent the Central District.  The conductor for the All-State Choir this year was Dr. Sandra Snow from Michigan State University.
