Girls tennis pleased with season

This year’s girls tennis season has come to a close, but the memories that went along with the season will stick with the players as they continue their sports careers. The girls recount some of the most memorable moments of this season.
“My favorite memory is when we all went to Hickman, all of us expecting to lose. Coach Kennedy gave us a really stern speech, keeping all our heads up. We came back and won, and it was great. I also liked during districts I was the only one to advance to the next bracket, and it was my first time playing in districts,” recounts junior Sam Callier.
There is nothing better in the sports scene than overcoming another player and overcoming your own limitations.
“There was a girl named Martha I always played, and every time I played her I’d lose, but finally I got my chance at conference when I played her again. Everyone on the team, or it felt like everyone, was watching me play her, and I just creamed her that game. That was probably my favorite memory of the season,” said sophomore Ashwini Krishnamurthy about this season’s memories.
It’s evident that Coach Kennedy is likeable and brings the team together. Anyone who mentions him shows the utmost respect towards him and acknowledges him as an outstanding coach.
“I think Coach  Kennedy is a great coach. You can tell he plays tennis, really plays it, and it shows since he knows what he’s talking about all the time, and knows what to teach, and when,” Callier said.
Coach Kennedy strives to mold the players into the best they can be. He just wants them to be motivated to further their abilities.
“Coach really pushes you and makes you a much better player, and he makes you want to try really hard not to let him down in match, because you know he cares, and he’s so honest,” Krishnamurthy said.
The girls definitely have high hopes for the next season and are hoping to improve their skills even more.
“I’m really looking forward to improving my serving and forehand, but also I’m really looking forward to making more friends with people on my team and with other tennis players from other teams,” Krishnamurthy said.
As with every school year, it’s tough to see the seniors go, but you get to meet new people as the seasons progress.
“I’m excited to be a senior next year and playing on the team as a senior, but it’s going to be hard saying goodbye to everyone so soon,” Callier said.
