Bulldogs soccer loses heartbreaker to Jefferson City

In a game full of action and high scoring, the Rolla Bulldogs fell to the Jefferson City Jays 4-3 in overtime. Rolla dropped to 4-2 and the Jays improved to 4-2.

The scoring began 30 seconds after the kickoff as Jefferson City scored on their very first possession. After the Jays goal, Rolla answered five minutes later with a goal of their own, off the foot of junior Evan Moore, to tie the game 1-1. In the 8th minute, Jefferson City regained their lead to put them up 2-1. Ten minutes later, the Jays extended their lead to 3-1. While the Jays thought they would run off with the win, senior captain Jarret Gabriele gave Rolla new life with a goal in the 25th minute. Gabriele’s goal concluded the half with the Jays leading 3-2.

The second half showed promises of being just as high scoring but neither team could find the back of the net. Both teams had multiple opportunities to score, but the lone goal came from a penalty scored by Gabriele.

Unfortunately, the Bulldogs could not carry their momentum into the overtime period. As the Jays scored in the very first minute of overtime.

Rolla’s next game is at home Tuesday, September 18th vs. West Plains,
