Students start RHS Amnesty International Club

This year, another club joined the slew of others that are offered at Rolla High. This club, Amnesty International, was founded at the high school last year, by now junior Jesse Lui.
“The thing that inspired me to start this club was that I felt there was a void to be filled at RHS, where socially conscious people could come together and help to community in the process” Lui said.
The club now meets every other week on Wednesdays in Mrs. Hargis’s room.
“We have twenty or so members and the main activities that we do is raise money for various causes, and try to help the community through various projects and volunteering” Lui said.
Their latest community service project is helping pack backpacks for the Backpack Program, which gives kids in the Rolla district food when they go home at nights and over the weekends. This program has a “no questions asked” policy, which allows kids to ask for food without having to explain why they need it.
“We plan on helping with the backpack program about every two weeks, with potential for more” Lui said.
